We have sent our Welcome Packs to schools in five countries of the world
and two schools inside Russia. Now we are waiting for the response of
our pen-pals whether they like the pack's content or not. What did we decide to sent? We thought it should be something Russian and
not very heavy. So we sent a lotto with the pictures of Russian symbols
on one side and short notes on the opposite side, an 8 March postcard,
our 'united' letter, a local newspaper, with our notes in English on it,
and a reproduction of the paintings by Russian artists such as Surikov.

Name of Project: Some Cultural Characteristics of Money Goal: The goal of this project is for students to learn about the history of national currency, its design and changes of images and writings on banknotes and coins. Our next partner is Campbellton Middle School and the team of students of 6-7 grade, the teacher Ryan MacDougall. The school is in Campbellton, N.B., Canada. The students write: ‘We are a small city, but the nearest METROPOLIS would be either Montreal (8 hours southwest) or Halifax (6 hours south).’
The area of the community is 1,630 km2 and the population - 7,385.
People come to visit the area for fishing, canoeing the Restigouche
River, watching the Campbellton Tigers, Junior "A” hockey team play or
skiing/snowboarding/climbing Sugarloaf Mountain. Sugarloaf Mountain is
the most unusual land formation near the community, which is a dormant
volcano, 305 metre high.

neighbors Gor’kovskoe secondary school №1, Omsk region. In school there
are 315 students, about 25-27 students in each class. |
We enjoyed reading one more Classroom Survey. Now it is from old town Kopyl, Minskaya oblast, Belarus.
The students of Kopyl Gymnasium write that their town is pretty small but very old. It was first mentioned in 1274. Kopyl is 120 km from Minsk, the capital of Belarus. The town is situated in an extremely picturesque place. It stands on the hills and it is surrounded by a small river. There are also 3 lakes and, of course, forests everywhere! We continue getting Classroom Surveys from schools-partners of the iEARN project Learning Circles. Now it is from Wheeling, West Virginia.
There are 368 students in Sherrard Middle school, about 24 students in class.
The school emblem, mascot is Rams which is quite unusual to our schools having numbers. School colors are red, black and white.
Sherrard Middle school was built in the mid 70’s and is all on one
level and on a hilltop in a rural setting. There was a high school but
later the high schools were consolidated into a large high school in
town called John Marshall High School where students go after they
complete 8th grade.

We finished our Class Survey and we were the first (!!) in our group. Now we are waiting for the Class Surveys from the schools in other countries. You may see what we got from the Zarqa Pioneet Center in Jordan. The Center was organizes in 1996 by the king Hussein to help
gifted and talented children to improve their skills. There are 50
students at school, 9 – 10 students in every class. They have 75
computers in the center (ACER, Great Wall, APD). Students' favorite
subjects are Maths and Physics.
They like playing table tennis and football, and computer/video
games (Cars, Counter Strike). Their favorite websites are Facebook and
YouTube.
