Name of Project: Some Cultural Characteristics of Money

Goal: The goal of this project is for students to learn about the history of national currency, its design and changes of images and writings on banknotes and coins. Students will get skills of analysis and revealing historical issues in everyday items.

Questions:  

1. The history of the money in your country

• When did the first money appear in your country? What did it look like? Give some pictures of the first money if possible.

• How did the design of money (banknotes and coins) change? What was the cause of such changes?

• Is there any unique, unusual information about the old money of your country?

• What was it possible to buy paying the least valuable coin?

2. Contemporary money

• How does contemporary money look like?

• What do the images and writings on coins and banknotes symbolize? Give some pictures of the contemporary money in your country.

• Is there any unique, unusual information about contemporary money of your country?

• What is it possible to buy paying the least valuable coin?

3. Money and language

• Is there any money slang? Give the examples.

• Which money slang do you use?

• Are there any sayings, proverbs about money in your language? Give 5 – 10 examples with positive and negative attitude to money.

• Do you want to be rich?

• Add any information you want to add to the project.
